Compounding extruder is a process that mixes one or more polymers with additives to give plastic compounds. The twin screw extruder may have parallel or conical screws, and these screws may rotate in the same direction or in opposite directions to achieve varying degrees of mixing shear.
They are used to compound heat sensitive materials such as PVC, processing of difficult-to-feed materials, reactive processing, and for plastic devolatilization. Pigments, additives, and fillers can be dispersed and distributed using corotating twin screw extruder.
Compounding is mixing and dispersing additives, fillers, pigments, stabilizers, flame retardants, polymer reinforcements, antioxidants, inhibitors, surface modifiers, foaming agents, processing aids into a melted polymer twin screw extruder mix, devolatilize and perform reactions in a continuous manner.
